Named Top Iowa Workplace

Fort Madison Community Hospital was named to the Iowa's Top 100 Workplaces 2012 by the Des Moines Register; ranking #2 in the Midsize Employer Category. Sixty-two percent of FMCH employees took the employee survey facilitated by leading research firm, Workplace Dynamics. Their rankings of important statements on the survey placed FMCH high on the list of top employers.

The surveys showed that Iowa employees put the highest importance on believing their company is going in the right direction and feeling appreciated at work.

Fort Madison Community Hospital has instituted a number of initiatives to engage employees and provide a positive work environment that includes Standards of Behavior, Employee Rounding, and Employee Perception Surveys that result in a plan of action decided on by each team to improve their work experience. The leadership at FMCH is also on a continuous course to maintain and improve the physical facility providing an appealing, clean, safe work environment and the tools necessary for each employee to excel at their job.

"People take great pride in this facility and in the people who work here. It's our family and friends that we're taking care of," commented Jim Platt, CEO when interviewed about what makes FMCH great. "There's that sense of responsibility from each and every member here to want to do the right thing at the right time for all of our patients. That goes a long way."

"I enjoy coming to work every day, not just as a nurse practitioner and seeing patients, because I love doing that, it's the people I see in the hallways, the administration. It really is all positive. I have worked other places and there's a huge difference just in the work environment itself," expressed Amy Wallis, Family Nurse Practitioner, My Care Walk-in Clinic.

Fort Madison Community Hospital was also recognized as a 'Doer'. The criterion for this recognition is "at this company, we do things efficiently and well. " The employee comment highlighted for this category was "They are always asking the employees what changes should be made to make things easier."The survey took place last spring and 164 organizations across Iowa participated. FMCH was in the midsize employer division which included organizations that employ 150-499 employees. At the time of the survey, FMCH employed 424 employees.
