Pre-Surgical Information
Fort Madison Community Hospital requests that patients follow these guidelines prior to surgery:
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight. You may take medications, as instructed by your physician, with a sip of water.
- Brush your teeth, but do not swallow any water.
- Bathe with antibacterial soap.
- Men should shave the morning of their surgery.
- Women should remove all make-up and nail polish.
- Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
- Arrange transportation home after your surgery. If you need assistance in arranging transportation, please call 319-376-2227.
- When you arrive, walk in the Annex Walk-In Clinic door and report to the desk on your left to check in. (Click here for a map of the hospital.)
Surgery staff will call patients the day before with the surgery time and to confirm personal
surgery needs. Please notify your physician and Surgery staff if you develop a fever, cough,
or illness at this time.
