Rehabilitation Services

Fort Madison Community Hospital provides a wide array of rehabilitation services to help patients heal, recover and improve their quality of life.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

FMCH's Cardiac Rehabilitation program has become extremely popular since its inception in 1989. It includes three basic aspects: information for the patient and their family, supervised exercise while in the hospital and supervised exercise as an outpatient.

The program is designed to promote the recovery of cardiac patients with:
  • Post myocardial infarction
  • Post coronary bypass or post valvular surgery
  • Stable angina pectoris
  • Chronic asthmatics
  • COPD emphysema
  • Those at risk for developing ischemic heart disease
  • Any physician-referred candidate with documented coronary artery disease
The FMCH Cardiac Rehabilitation program is staffed with a Registered Nurse who works with physicians from Iowa City, Davenport and the surrounding area to provide patients their best chance for recovery.

Physical Therapy

Are you unable to participate in work and recreational activities without limitations or pain? Have you injured your shoulder, knee or ankle and just can't seem to return to your previous fitness level? Has a loved one shown gradual decline in his or her ability to get around at home? If any of the above conditions apply to you or your family, you may benefit from a visit with a Fort Madison Community Hospital Physical Therapist.

FMCH offers a comprehensive Physical Therapy Department. The department provides therapy services for individuals with orthopaedic or neurological conditions on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Physical Therapists meet with patients prior to the scheduled surgery for a consultation. During this consultation, patients are informed of what to expect after surgery and for the duration of their recovery.

Patients can receive inpatient, outpatient and home health Physical Therapy Services from Fort Madison Community Hospital. This system promotes a quality continuum of care. Benefits of choosing Fort Madison Community Hospital's Physical Therapy services include:
  • Aquatic Therapy services are available for athletic injuries and orthopaedic patients. FMCH's Aquatic Therapist received her training from the Chicago Bulls Aquatic Consultant.

Therapists work in inpatient, outpatient and home health settings following their patient through the continuum of care.
