Youth Education

A variety of educational programs for children are sponsored by Fort Madison Community Hospital. Classes can be taught at the hospital or may be scheduled for a local school classroom or other small group setting. To schedule a class listed below, call 319-376-2223.

  • What Bugs Need Drugs
    Discusses the unnecessary use of antibiotics with children.
  • Germ Wars
    Discusses the importance of handwashing and germ prevention.
  • Sibling Class
    Helps children, ages 3-12, prepare and adjust to a new baby.

Fort Madison Community Hospital co-sponsors a Medical Explorer Post Program with the Mississippi Valley Council Exploring Division. This Program allows area high school students an opportunity to learn about various health care careers, including nursing, physical therapy, laboratory, radiology, and multiple support services. Presentations discuss job duties, educational requirements, salary ranges, and career paths.

FMCH also sponsors a Junior Volunteer Program. The ten week program gives students ages 14-18 an opportunity to work in a variety of departments throughout the hospital. Some examples of Junior Volunteer duties include; transporting patients, restocking patient supplies, providing companionship for patients, assisting with mail delivery and many other duties.
