Heather Elmore, P.N.P. joins FMP&S Pediatrics

FMP&S Pediatrics is pleased to welcome Nurse Practitioner, Heather Elmore, to their medical team.  Heather joins FMP&S Pediatrics after completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Iowa - College of Nursing.  She is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Heather was most recently employed by the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital as a Staff Nurse on the Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Team.

Elmore began her health care career as an Emergency Medical Technician and then went on to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Allen College of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, Elmore worked as a staff nurse in the Emergency Room at Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids, and in the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. For the past seven years, Elmore worked as a member of AirCare’s Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Team, transporting critically-ill newborns and children by ground ambulance and helicopter.

“As an EMT, I was drawn in by the teamwork that took place among the health care professionals and decided to become a nurse to be a more intimate part of that team. I have had the good fortune to learn from the best, watching amazing professionals create a calming environment that pulled in the patient, the medical team, and the family. Working as a health care provider is like being a detective, you have to being able to put the pieces together to provide the best care.  With infants and children, you need to have keen assessment and diagnostic skills as they are not always able or willing to tell you what is wrong,” explained Elmore. “I love what I do as it is such an honor to be part of the intimacy of life and death. I see myself as a partner, an advocate and an educator for my patients and their parents or caregivers.  As our patients reach their teenage years, I try to empower them to take responsibility for their good health.”

“We are very excited to have Heather join us. Her vast experience caring for pediatric patients and the fact that she has worked closely with Dr. Artinian and Dr. Burnett as well as the rest of our Maternal Child staff, makes her a wonderful addition to our team,” commented Jim Platt, CEO, FMCH. “I believe our patients and their parents or caregivers will be pleased as well.”

Elmore will join Dr. Frank Artinian and Dr. Kolleen Burnett beginning September 15th. To schedule an appointment, call 319-372-KIDS (5437) or set up an account on our My Health Patient Portal by going to www.fmchosp.com and clicking on the My Health Patient Portal.
