FMCH Foundation & Shottenkirk Raise Awareness

Early detection is the key to cancer survival, and during the month of October, Shottenkirk, the GM Giant is partnering with the Fort Madison Community Hospital to raise awareness and raise money for the FMCH Foundation’s Breast Health Fund.

The two organizations hope to raise several thousand dollars this year during national Breast Cancer Awareness Month which will be used to provide free or reduced cost mammograms or necessary follow-up tests to women who are uninsured or who otherwise could not afford them. Fundraising activities will be conducted in both the sales and service departments of Shottenkirk in Fort Madison all month long.

“Nationally, Chevrolet and GM Certified Service will be promoting Breast Cancer Awareness Month and dealers are encouraged to join in the effort with localized events,” said Lonnie Schulyer, General Manager. “Since most families, including my own have been touched in some way by Breast Cancer, we jumped on board right away and got in touch with our friends at FMCH to see how we might partner to focus on defeating the disease,” Schuyler said.

Since early detection figures so prominently in cancer survival rates, the two organizations agreed that making mammograms more widely available would be one way to have an immediate and lasting impact in the local area. The charitable FMCH Foundation will receive and disburse the funds raised during this month. Individuals who are interested in learning more about the Breast Health Fund can contact Kevin Rink with FMCH at 376-2110

The GM Giant will spearhead the fundraising effort in several ways. Shottenkirk Fort Madison will make cash donations for every test drive taken and all service work performed, and a larger donation for each vehicle sold in October. Those who take the test drive will also receive a commemorative pink bracelet to show their support and increase awareness.

Additionally, patrons may make voluntary cash donations. One of the unique activities is “Cover the Cruze for a Cure” where visitors who donate a dollar or more can sign a miniature pink t-shirt card and place them on a Chevy Cruze until it is completely covered. For customers who do not take a test drive, for another donation of a dollar or more they can get the pink bracelet. For a donation of $5 or more donors will receive a commemorative Chevy/Pink Ribbon lapel pin. And for $10 or more they will receive the official hot pink event t-shirt.

As part of the national campaign, GM Certified Service is giving customers the option to donate all or part of their mail in rebates to Making Strides against Breast Cancer which will be matched by GM. And Shottenkirk will make an additional cash donation to the local fund for all service visits in October.
