Dr. W. Riggs Bagan

W. Riggs Bagan, M.D.
Dr. Bagan defines the description of a "people person." He states, "The most rewarding aspect of my job is working with people." In fact, that is why he became a physician in the first place. "I had the opportunity to work in the Operating Room of a charity hospital for a summer in high school. I enjoyed working with the people there. I also enjoy medicine because there is always something new to learn and every situation is unique and the profession is always changing," Bagan said.

Dr. Bagan received his degree from the Medical College of Virginia in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. He is a General Surgeon and has been practicing medicine since 1986. "I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to have a job that I thoroughly enjoy," he says.

He feels it is important for individuals to be comfortable with their physician. Dr. Bagan thinks the people of Fort Madison are fortunate because of "the personal care available here in this smaller community. Fort Madison is a nice place to live, a very nice community," said Bagan.

Dr. Bagan enjoys doing "fix-it" projects with his family; wife, Margie, and children, Betsy, David and Andrew. He also enjoys outdoor activities and computers.
