Fort Madison Community Hospital Invests in new MRI System
A new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system at Fort Madison Community Hospital assists physicians in diagnosing
a wide range of patient conditions and prescribing the right treatment to expedite recovery.
“We are pleased to offer the latest in MR imaging technology and to provide the highest-quality diagnostic power to
our patients and their doctors,” says Angie Budnik, Community Relations Director. “It will help us make the right
treatment decisions and gives us one more tool to bring quality healthcare to our community.”
By significantly improving the quality and speed of a MRI study, the new scanner delivers more detailed information
about the patient’s condition while making the experience patient-friendly. Benefits include:
- New technologies that help doctors provide fast, accurate diagnoses.
- Shorter exams that may not require a breath-hold.
- Less stress and discomfort for claustrophobic patients.
- The ability to listen to your favorite CD during the study.
“The addition of our new MR system has given us the ability to provide better care for our female patients,” says Jason
Lampe, Clinical Supervisor of Radiology at FMCH “Breast MR gives our physicians the ability to see both breasts at the
same time, which may potentially eliminate the patient having to go through the breast imaging process twice.”
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses radio waves and a strong magnet field rather than x-rays to produce very detailed,
cross-sectional images of the body. MRI requires specialized equipment and expertise and allows evaluation of some body
structures that may not be as visible with other imaging methods.
