Looking for a way to be of service to others? Or maybe you would like an escape from boredom or a way to meet new friends. Volunteering at Fort Madison Community Hospital is just what you are looking for. Our volunteers jointly donate nearly 3,000 hours of their time each year. Volunteer opportunities include:Helping hand reaching out to someone

  • Gift Shop: Shifts are 3-4 hours long. Duties include opening the shop, being available for sales, ringing sales in on the cash register and closing the shop after a shift.
  • Rehabilitation Services: Shifts are from 8:00-11:00 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. Duties include preparing charge slips, transporting patients from their rooms to the department, changing therapy beds, scheduling appointments and working at the reception desk.
  • Cards and Flowers: Shifts are mornings or afternoons. Duties include delivering mail, newspapers, and flowers to patients, admitting and discharging patients, transporting patients in wheelchairs, running errands for departments, answering the phones, and other clerical tasks.
  • Other duties as arranged: Volunteers are welcome in all departments at the hospital. If you have an interest in a specific area, please let us know.

All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and complete a TB skin test. Volunteers are also invited to join Fort Madison Community Hospital's Auxiliary. If you are interested in volunteering at FMCH, please contact FMCH Human Resources at 319-376-2126 or
